Community Coordinator

The Community Coordinator plays a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant and inclusive community environment for our athletes and volunteers. Their primary responsibilities include coordinating volunteers, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures while overseeing the delivery of programs in alignment with the Special Olympics Ontario constitution, by-laws, and guidelines. Strong leadership, organizational prowess, and effective communication skills are essential. The dedication of our Community Coordinators directly contribute to the success and growth of our community programs, making a profound impact on the lives of our athletes.

The following outlines the core duties and annual tasks expected of the Community Coordinator to ensure effective leadership and management within the Special Olympics Ontario community.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure volunteers are organized and tasks delegated effectively.
  • Foster a supportive environment for volunteers within the community.
  • Ensure adherence to Provincial Special Olympics constitution, by-laws, and guidelines.
  • Attend and lead meetings requiring executive attention; Facilitate communication among council members.
  • Monitor community finances in collaboration with the Community Treasurer.
  • Serve as a public-facing representative for inquiries regarding local programs.
  • Maintain communication between Provincial Office and community members.
  • Orient incoming Community Coordinator on responsibilities and procedures.
  • Facilitate ongoing training opportunities for community members.

Annual Responsibilities:

  • Chair and organize monthly council meetings throughout the year.
  • Address and resolve any community-related issues as they arise.
  • Provide updates and contact lists to Provincial Staff regularly.
  • Review and update Community Operating Guidelines annually.
  • Coordinate with Head Coaches and Provincial Staff for endorsement and paperwork during games years.
  • Plan and adjust community budget with input from Community Council and Head Coaches.
  • Review community activities and performance during seasonal transitions.
  • Implement new policies and initiatives as directed by the Provincial Office
