Community Treasurer

The Community Treasurer plays a vital role in maintaining and monitoring the financial transactions and records of the Community. This position is crucial for ensuring financial accountability, preparing financial statements, and managing the community's budget. Key responsibilities include attending council meetings, providing financial reports, maintaining accurate financial records, and acting as a resource for community volunteers on financial matters.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Attend all community council meetings and provide a financial report, including transactions and balance for that period.
  • Submit a written financial report to be attached to the minutes of each meeting.
  • Complete the year-end financial statement and submit it to the Provincial Staff Representative during the month of July.
  • Maintain accurate financial records of the community’s transactions, including receipts and bank statements.
  • Act as one of three signing authorities within the community.
  • Issue cheques for volunteer expenses.
  • Act as a resource to community volunteers on all financial matters.
  • Ensure proper financial accountability within the community and adherence to SOO’s financial policies, including centralized banking.
  • Prepare and submit all applications for grants to the Provincial office with the assistance of the Head Coaches, Community Coordinator, and Sport Technical Coordinator (if applicable).
  • Prepare the annual budget for the community with the assistance of the Community Coordinator, Executive Members, and Head Coaches.
  • Review and be familiar with relevant sections of the Resource Library.
  • Maintain the Special Olympics email address provided.

Annual Responsibilities:

  • Attend council meetings and present monthly financial reports.
  • Handle community finances, including paying bills and managing transactions.
  • Coordinate with the Community Coordinator to prepare and submit the fiscal year-end statement.
  • Work with the community council and Head Coaches to create the budget for the next fiscal year.
  • Manage athlete registration deposits and end-of-season financial activities.
  • Support Volunteer Week and Volunteer Years of Service Inventory.
  • Oversee the financial aspects of the transition between sport seasons.
