Community Volunteer Coordinator 

The Community Volunteer Coordinator implements and maintains a volunteer placement process, including recruitment, interviewing, placement, orientation, training, and recognition. This role ensures that the community has the volunteers it needs to operate effectively.

Main Responsibilities

  • Consult with community council members and coaches to determine volunteer needs.
  • Ensure complete and accurate job descriptions for all positions.
  • Train and qualify volunteer placement interviewers.
  • Conduct interviews, select, and place volunteers according to policy.
  • Develop effective volunteer recruitment strategies.
  • Liaise with the Provincial Staff Representative for recruitment and recognition strategies.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of volunteer service.
  • Assist with distributing years of service awards.
  • Transfer files to the new Volunteer Coordinator upon vacating the position.
  • Maintain the Special Olympics email address provided.
  • Review and familiarize yourself with relevant sections of the information portal.

Annual Responsibilities

  • Send reminders and minutes for monthly meetings.
  • Attend meetings and take minutes.
  • Conduct volunteer registrations and updates, particularly during key sports seasons.
  • Participate in volunteer week and service inventory activities.
  • Assist with athlete registration and volunteer management at season transitions.

The position requires 2-5 hours per week, with potential increases during peak volunteer activities. The role adapts to the community’s needs, including events, volunteer registrations, and council requirements. The position is for a two-year term (renewable) or as specified by community by-laws. Orientation and training are provided by the outgoing Volunteer Coordinator, Community Coordinator, and Provincial Staff Representative. The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Community Council and the membership.
