COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose
To implement and maintain a volunteer placement process (recruitment, interviewing, placement, orientation, training and recognition) within the community.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership, organizational and administrative skills.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Ability to coordinate and delegate tasks.
- Experience in interviewing and completing background reference checks.
- Volunteer Management knowledge and experience an asset.
- Access to a computer and e-mail is strongly recommended.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Consult with other community council members and coaches to determine their volunteer needs.
- Ensure there are complete and accurate job descriptions written and available for all community council members and program positions.
- Ensure that all volunteer placement interviewers are trained, qualified and understand the importance of interviewing and background reference checks.
- Carry out interviewing, selecting and placement of volunteers as per policy and procedures.
- Determine the best way of recruiting volunteers for the clubs and community council.
- Ensure the appropriate and most effective methods of recruitment are being utilized.
- Liaise with your Provincial Staff Representative in regards to recruitment and recognition strategies.
- Keep up to date records of volunteer service (e.g. application forms, volunteer logs, positions held, years of service)
- Assist the Provincial Office in distributing years of service awards.
- Upon vacating the position all files etc. must be passed on to the new Volunteer Coordinator.
- Review and be familiar with sections 1,6,9,10,13 and 18 of the information portal.
- Maintain Special Olympics e-mail address that is provided to you if applicable
Time Requirement

2-5 hours per week is the estimated time commitment.
Duration of Position

Two year term or as per Community by-laws.
Accountability
- To work in cooperation with the Community Council and the membership.
Orientation and Training
- Orientation and training is available through the outgoing Volunteer Coordinator, the Community Coordinator and from a provincial staff representative.

If you don’t have enough coaches coming back for next Winter/ Spring season create a recruitment strategy to work on over the summer
