Health and Wellness Coordinator
The Health, Wellness, and Fitness Volunteer Coordinator (HWFVC) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the well-being of athletes, teams, and their families within the community. This position is crucial for promoting health and wellness programs both within and outside Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) sports. By supporting athletes to be the healthiest versions of themselves on and off the playing field, the coordinator contributes to a holistic approach to athlete development. Key responsibilities include promoting health and fitness resources, facilitating community programming, hosting Healthy Athletes events, and addressing specific health concerns in collaboration with SOO.
Main Responsibilities
- Promote health and fitness resources to local teams, athletes, coaches, and families.
- Use available Special Olympics health, wellness, and fitness resources (such as Fit 5 wellness booklets) to facilitate small-scale community programming.
- Work with SOO to host a Healthy Athletes (HA) event in your community.
- Identify health and wellness concerns specific to your community and work alongside SOO to address them.
Annual Responsibilities
- Choose areas of focus in collaboration with SOO to tailor health and wellness initiatives to the community's needs.
- Implement and manage health and wellness initiatives, even if limited to a single program.
- Facilitate communication and coordination between local teams, athletes, coaches, families, and SOO regarding health and wellness programs.
- 5-10 hours per month, e-mails, phone conferences, meetings, events and workshops.
Please Note: The coordinator has the flexibility to choose which areas to explore in their community, allowing them to customize their role based on their capacity and interests.
