Sport Technical Coordinator
The Sport Technical Coordinator is essential for enhancing the quality and effectiveness of community sports programs. This role involves providing support and resources to coaches, athletes, and volunteers, ensuring adherence to guidelines, and fostering overall program improvement. The coordinator acts as a key liaison, facilitating communication between the community, coaches, and provincial bodies, and ensuring a high standard of sports experiences for all participants.
Main Responsibilities
- Act as a resource for community volunteers seeking sport-specific information.
- Interact with parents, coaches, and athletes to ensure sports programs align with Pan-Canadian and Provincial guidelines.
- Monitor and ensure safe and effective athlete-to-coach ratios.
- Support sport club improvement initiatives within the community.
- Educate and assist coaches with tracking and monitoring NCCP coaching course certifications.
- Facilitate and support coach training and education opportunities with SOO and sport partners.
- Onboard and train new sport coaches on SOO resources and best practices.
- Promote and attend Sport Specific Conference Call (SSCC) meetings with community coaches.
- Ensure competition opportunities are available and collaborate with SOO staff if opportunities are lacking.
- Inform the Provincial Staff Representative about local invitational competitions for monitoring and promotion.
- Liaise with sport technical coordinators from other communities and share best practices.
- Serve as a communication link between the Community Council and various sport clubs regarding updates and changes.
- Assist with athlete and volunteer issues, keeping SOO informed using Accident and Incident Forms.
- Work with Head Coaches to locate and ensure the safety standards of practice facilities.
- Review and familiarize yourself with Sport and Competition Policies, specific sport rules, and resources.
- Maintain the Special Olympics email address provided.
Annual Responsibilities
- Act as a liaison between sport clubs and the Community Council throughout the year.
- Monitor and check in with coaches during the start and end of each sport season.
- Oversee athlete registrations for various sport seasons.
- Ensure facilities are booked and that coaches have the necessary certifications and practice plans.
- Manage volunteer recognition and support initiatives.
- Address any issues related to athlete and volunteer discipline.
- Transition and hand over all files and responsibilities to the incoming Sport Technical Coordinator upon vacating the position.
