Voting at the Annual General Meeting

  1. Any registered volunteer of Special Olympics Ontario-________ is eligible to vote for Community Council candidates at the Annual General Meeting.
  2. Each member is allowed one vote for each position
  3. Voting shall be done by secret ballot, which shall be destroyed following the election.
  4. The ballots are to be counted after each vote, by scrutineers (individual appointed by the Community Council and deemed to have no-conflict-of-interest in the election). The two scrutineers will announce the winning candidate after each ballot has been tabulated.

Vacancies

In cases where a position has become vacant mid-term, or remains unfilled following an election, the Community Council may choose to utilize a selection process rather than election. The benefits of selection are that individuals can be chosen and recruited for their specific skills and compatibility to the position.

The selection process includes the completion of a Declaration of Interest form and the interviewing of the candidates by a pre-selected committee. As in the business world, criteria is set prior to the interviews and the candidate that matches and excels in most of the criteria areas should be selected. The appointed individual may remain in the position until the end of the term or until such time as other candidates come forward.
