7000-204 SPORT: OUT-OF-PROVINCE COMPETITION

Any Special Olympics athletes, coaches or volunteers wishing to travel out of the Province while representing Special Olympics Ontario must first obtain endorsement from Special Olympics Ontario.  A request for approval form must be received by the Sport & Competition Team at least 45 days prior to the planned departure.*

In recognizing the beneficial experience by participants traveling to events outside of Ontario, Special Olympics Ontario has developed guidelines for groups interested in such opportunities.  

This request must contain the following information:

  • Proof that it is a Special Olympics sanctioned event. Provide competition invite.
  • Name, date and location of the event to be attended
  • The purpose of the event
  • Complete list of clubs, athletes, coaches and volunteers attending the trip with a valid Special Olympics Ontario Registration number indicated for each individual
  • Athlete and coach selection criteria
  • Complete budget for the trip
  • Method of funding the trip
  • Cost to each individual, and the cost covered by fundraising
  • Agenda for the entire trip
  • Method of travel – please be specific.
  • Accommodation information at your destination including address and phone number.
  • Verification of additional Health Coverage when traveling outside of Canada
  • Team manager or contact person with phone number

To Receive Approval

Special Olympics Ontario will use the following criteria to grant approval:

  • Must adhere to application requirements.
  • The Sport Club(s) is a registered program with Special Olympics Ontario
  • Athletes must be involved in actual competition during the trip
  • Athletes and coaches must be registered with Special Olympics Ontario and involved in ongoing training within their communities
  • Funds must be raised specifically for the event and the trip will not place undue financial hardship on the Community or in any way affect ongoing programming
  • Participants must represent Special Olympics Ontario in accordance to Policy 7000-201 Travelling Teams
  • All travel plans must meet Special Olympics Ontario  policy and or guidelines,

* Communities/programs which are geographically located close to a Provincial or United States border or require a competition  level in a close proximity that we can not provide in Ontario; may submit one request for all competitions.

Final approval is granted by Special Olympics Ontario. Failure to adhere to any of the above criteria may result in a denial of the request.
