Conference CompetitionConference Competition The conference competition is the foundation of Special Olympics Ontario competitions. All athletes have access to attend competition at this level. Each sport specific conference must hold a minimum of one competition per sport season. Hosted in each conference under the guidance of the Sport Specific Conference Team (SSCT) The one competition that all athletes within a conference must have the opportunity to attend Includes all ability levels including Adapt and all events (where applicable) Hosted by a registered coach / volunteer of SOO Divisioning / Seeding must occur to ensure all athletes are competing within their correct ability level Sport rules must adhere to the SOC Sport Rules (SOO Rule Supplements) unless previously approved by SOO Registration fees not to exceed $25 per athlete or $40 per golfer Grants are available to assist with competition deficits in communities who require assistance.

FriendliesFriendlies Clubs are encouraged to plan low-key competition opportunities with other clubs. This may be a shared practice session, scrimmage, or mixed-team pick-up. Such events allow athletes who have never attended a Special Olympics event to gain experience in travel and the competition format.

Invitational CompetitionsInvitational Competitions Many various-sized invitational competitions happen throughout the year in a variety of sports. Invitationals vary from a couple of communities participating, to international in scope. Hosts are expected to apply the same standards of competition as with Conference competitions.

Other Types of CompetitionOther Types of Competition School CompetitionVolunteer committees are developed throughout Ontario that host school competitions, And school boards include Special Olympics divisions in their existing competitions. Provincial Qualifier (PQ)Provincial Qualifier (PQ) Conference competitions in years preceding Provincial Games are Provincial Qualifiers, and all athletes moving forward to the Provincial Games must qualify through this competition. Hosted in the year prior to provincial games and used to determine the Provincial Quota allocation for each sport specific conference and for identifying the athletes who will advance to Provincial Games All athletes that have an SOO registration number and are in good standing in their community are eligible to attend the Provincial Qualifier.

Virtual CompetitionVirtual Competition Inspired by the school-based initiative, clubs from across the district, conference or province are invited to submit scores from a simulated competition in a training session. These results are pooled with others and divisioned as a competition, with awards distributed.
