Provincial Games Coach Position Description

Purpose:

Coaches selected to attend Provincial Games are required to make a commitment to their athletes, their sport and to their District Team.  Coaches will ensure that all athletes have a successful and fulfilling experience at the Provincial Games and perform to the best of their ability before and during the games.

Minimum Qualifications/Skills Required: (all applicants must provide a copy of their NCCP transcript)

Coaching Certification

  • all coaches attending the Provincial Games must meet the coaching requirements outlined in the Coach Training and Certification policy no later than 60 days prior to the start of the Provincial Games.

Coaches must also possess the following attributes:

  • outstanding coaching and leadership abilities and ability to work as a team member
  • past experience in a Games environment is an asset but not mandatory
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills; and,
  • excellent organizational and administrative skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Be available to attend the Provincial  Games
  • Maintain regular contact with assigned athletes and their parents/guardians
  • Implement and/or monitor individualized training programs for each athlete in your care
  • Maintain regular contact with your head coach and or District Team Manager
  • Be responsible for preparing athletes for their competition at the Games
  • Be responsible for the supervision and well-being of up to five (5) athletes for the duration of the Games
  • Supervise athletes during travel to and from the games
  • Conduct oneself in accordance with the conditions outlined in Special Olympics Ontario Policy
    Travelling Teams – Roles and Responsibilities,
  • Attend all required functions at the Games, i.e. Opening Ceremonies, Awards, Presentations, etc., representing Special Olympics Ontario, your District and your Community with distinction
  • All coaches and mission staff must travel to and from the Games as part of the District Team
  • All coaches must complete an evaluation form for each athlete and submit it to the DTM within one week of the Games

            

Eligibility:  Coaches who coached at the Provincial Qualifiers are eligible to apply for Provincial Games.  

Job Requirements:  Must have access to computer, internet and email.

Supervision: This position is responsible to the Head Coach and/or District Team Manager and Special Olympics Ontario.
