Basketball

Basketball is one of the top sports at Special Olympics. Players take it up at all ages and at all abilities, from young players learning to handle the ball and keep it under control while dribbling to older, more experienced players who have the moves and know the strategies to play challenging ball.

Sport Status

Basketball is a sport that is recognized at all levels of Special Olympics. Athletes can compete in club level matches right up to SOI World Games.

Sport Season

Basketball is a Spring sport for SOO, the season usually runs from October to May. For National and World games Basketball participates in the Summer Games.

Athlete to Coach Ratios

The ratios are minimum athlete to coach requirements for not only Conference competitions, Provincial, and National Games, but for all Special Olympics Ontario competitions and practices. They ensure that athletes are safe and supervised at all times.
