Community Treasurer Position Description
Purpose
To maintain and monitor the financial transactions and records of the Community.
Qualifications
- Some bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Demonstrated capabilities and trustworthiness in financial management
- Ability to create financial statements and budgets and to monitor day to day financial transactions

Computer and email access is strongly recommended
Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend all community council meetings and give a financial report including transactions and balance for that period. Submit a written report to be attached to minutes
- Complete year end financial statement and submit to your Provincial Staff Representative during the month of July
- Maintain accurate financial record of the Community’s transactions, including receipts and bank statements
- Act as one of three signing authorities within the Community
- Issues cheques for approved volunteer expenses
- Act as a resource to Community volunteers on all financial matters
- Ensure that proper financial accountability is maintained within the Community and that SOO’s financial policies are adhered to
- With the assistance of the Head Coaches, Community Coordinator and Sport Technical Coordinator (if applicable), prepare and submit all applications for grants to the Provincial office
- With the assistance of the Community Coordinator, Executive Members, and Head Coaches prepare the annual budget for the community
- Review and be familiar with the Communities and Clubs and Risk Management sections of the Resource Library

Time Requirement
Two to five hours per week is the estimated time commitment.
Duration of Position
Two-year term or as per Community by-laws.
Accountability
To work in cooperation with the Community Council and with the membership. To submit reports as required to the Provincial Office of Special Olympics Ontario.
