Hardwood Ski & Bike Welcomes Special Olympics for 2024 Season

The Central Simcoe County area of Central Ontario District is pleased to see the return of a program launched in 2023: mountain biking! In partnership with Hardwood Ski & Bike in Oro-Medonte, athletes join together for a weekly program led by an accredited instructor and supported by registered Special Olympics volunteers. Expanded to ten weeks for 2024, the group will hit the trails through June and July and cap it off with a Wednesday Night Series race. Athletes from neighbouring communities – Barrie, Orillia, Huronia and beyond – are welcome to participate in the club that is registered under SOO-Barrie.

For athlete Grant Vahi, he's been looking forward to the return after enjoying last year's session. “It's about getting back together with friends and having fun on the trails,” said Grant when asked why he was keen about the program. Hardwood Ski & Bike offers groomed, marked trails, bicycle rentals, and a full-service facility. This facility is pleased to include Special Olympics among its many programs.
