We are thrilled to announce that Special Olympics Ontario’s School Programs are evolving into Unified Champion Schools, thanks to generous support from the Government of Ontario. This rebranding reflects our dedication to fostering inclusive school environments where students with and without intellectual disabilities can learn, lead, grow, and play together.
Unified Champion Schools is part of a global movement, with thousands of schools worldwide promoting respect, inclusion, and diversity. With the Ontario government’s recent investment in physical activity and healthy lifestyles, as highlighted in their press release, we are expanding our reach to more schools, ensuring inclusive sports opportunities for all students. The government’s initiative aims to create environments where students can participate in recreational activities that foster overall well-being and development. “On behalf of our entire organization, I want to extend our deepest gratitude to the Government of Ontario for their invaluable support and funding. The investment not only fuels our vision but also demonstrates our shared commitment to an inclusive future. Funding will go directly to our Unified Champion Schools program, where students with and without intellectual disabilities compete together on the same team, instilling confidence, contributing to a healthier lifestyle, and building lifelong friendships. Together, we continue to build a more inclusive society.” — Cody Jansma, President and CEO, Special Olympics Ontario
