Sports / Programs Specific Guidelines

Effective November 22, 2022

Face coverings are not mandated by Special Olympics Ontario, however, we strongly recommends face coverings to be worn within all indoor facilities while participating in Special Olympics Ontario training, competitions or social events.  Face coverings may be removed while actively participating in physical exercise but should be placed on again, immediately after the physical exercise.

Individual Special Olympics communities will have the option to implement mandatory face covering requirements for their indoor programs.

All community programs, competitions and events will be required to follow the COVID-19 and infectious disease protocols that are established by their local municipality, health unit or facility (if any).

Members of all SOO programs who have a contagious illness (COVID-19, Influenza, etc) are asked to contact their local health unit to receive guidance on how to prevent the spread of the virus.  Community programs are no longer required to report COVID positive cases to SOO, but are asked to contact their local Health Unit to received guidance.

School based sport programs will continue to follow the direction of their respective school board. Partner programs will continue to follow the direction of their respective provincial sport organization.

Hand hygiene is an extremely effective way to reduce the spread of viruses.  Please wash your hands, frequently, with warm soapy water or use hand sanitizer.

Most importantly, if you are unwell, STAY HOME!
