Athlete Support from Bâton Rouge

In early June, Bâton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar locations in Ottawa and Oakville hosted fundraising lunches in support of local Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) communities.

The fundraising lunches are made possible through meals donated by the local Bâton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar and its suppliers. These meals are provided to attendees free of charge while encouraging customers to donate in support of their local Special Olympics Ontario community. Athletes and volunteers visit diners at their tables throughout the event, taking pictures, sharing their stories, answering questions, and collecting donations.

Support from the local restaurants has been incredible, with staff and management showing a tremendous desire to help Special Olympics Ontario and local athletes specifically. “There is no better feeling in the world than to see the smiles on the athletes’ faces knowing that we are here not only to support and recognize their accomplishments but also to celebrate their success,” said Leonidas Nickopolous, Operating Owner of Bâton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar in downtown Ottawa. “It is inspiring to hear about the incredible achievements from everyone participating with Special Olympics Ontario.”

First introduced in 2023, SOO events in both communities have already grown thanks to the amazing support from these restaurants and local supporters. In 2024, these events raised more than $12,000 combined for the two communities. The success of these events has already led to strong ties between the local Special Olympics Ontario communities and the restaurants in Ottawa and Oakville, with hopes to expand the event into other communities.
