Gift Card Request Guidelines
Purpose: Special Olympics Ontario is committed to supporting athletes, coaches, and volunteers. Gift cards from our national partners, Tim Horton’s and Empire (Sobeys), may be provided to assist with expenses.
Gift cards may be requested by:
• Special Olympics Ontario athletes, coaches, volunteers or staff
• Local community programs or teams
• Approved Special Olympics Ontario events or initiatives
• Law Enforcement Torch Run
Gift cards must be used for:
• Event or competition-related expenses
• Other approved purposes as determined by Special Olympics Ontario
Please note:
- There will be a cap of $5/person for Tim Hortons gift cards and $10/person for Sobeys gift cards
- Each individual request will be capped at $500
- Each Special Olympics Community will be capped annually
- Events must be within two months of the request
- For tax compliance purposes and to allow the charity to recover the HST, candidates who receive gift cards are now required to submit proof of purchase following their event. An automated email will be sent to the applicant the day after the event with instructions to upload the required documentation. Any nominal remaining balances on gift cards should be retained and used for future community events.
Request Process
• Complete the Gift Card Request Form found below
• Provide any supporting documentation (if required)
• Requests must be submitted at least 14 days in advance of the required date
• Approval decisions will be communicated within 3 business days
• Special Olympics Ontario reserves the right to deny or modify requests
