Hudson Booth has been a dedicated Special Olympics athlete for nine years, participating and competing in five-pin bowling, athletics (track and field), basketball, golf, and soccer. Hudson has also proudly represented Team Ontario as a Nordic skier at multiple National Games.
One of his favourite Special Olympics memories is skiing at the 2020 Special Olympics National Winter Games in Thunder Bay, but he also has a great time hanging out with friend at more local events, practices, and competitions. “I like Special Olympics because it has helped me make new friends and be active.”
In 2019, Hudson was awarded the Special Olympics Award of Excellence in recognition of his outstanding achievements as an athlete. This award recognizes a Special Olympics athlete who has excelled locally, provincially or nationally and possesses qualities consistent with the Special Olympics Oath: “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
On a more local level, Hudson inspired the creation of the Special Olympics/Para Athlete of the Year Award at Almaguin Highlands Secondary School, which he won in consecutive years. Hudson is always eager to learn the proper way to do things, no matter how difficult. He believes in just doing the best you can and encourages his fellow athletes along the way, acting as a true inspiration to athletes and coaches alike.
Like many of our athletes, Hudson recognizes and appreciates the generosity of all our supporters, with this special message for donors in particular: “Thank you for donating. Some of us couldn’t do our sports without your help!”
