Kayaking

Sprint Kayaking is all about speed on the water. Strength, technique, endurance and raw speed are all elements of this impressive Olympic discipline. Special Olympics Kayaking is a sanctioned SOI sport and is currently contested at World Games. In Canada, the Canoe/Kayak governing body, Canoe Kayak Canada, has been offering formal competitive kayaking opportunities for all abilities since the introduction of their PaddleALL program in 2006.

In 2017, Special Olympics Ontario formalized a partnership with Canoe Kayak Ontario, and Canoe Kayak Canada, in an effort to provide more recreation and competition opportunities for individuals with an intellectual disability in Ontario. As a result of this partnership, Special Olympics Athletes are now able to compete at Special Olympics event in local, regional and provincial competitions in Ontario. Canoe Kayak Canada has also introduced ID events at their national championships.
