School Feature: Montcalm Secondary School from London

hayleypNews, Story Highlights

Our class at Montcalm Secondary School began participating in Special Olympics Ontario events during the beginning of COVID. At the time, the events were all done asynchronously. As we were one of the few classes learning in person during those times, it gave the students something fun and different to look forward to aside from the regular routine or schedule.

Since then, our class continues to enjoy both the virtual events and the in-person events such as the basketball tournament and the upcoming floorball tournament. We always emphasize that the most important thing is for our students to have fun and try their best at these events. The students always demonstrate such a good, positive spirit and are pumped when it’s Spirit Day.

When asking the class for their input as to what they most enjoy about the Special Olympics Ontario events, they told us that they like being able to try new things and have such different experiences. They also enjoy getting to meet new people at the in-person tournaments. And who can forget the fun and excitement of the Trivia games on the Live Event Fridays.

Happy, Excited, Good, Awesome, Proud! Words the students themselves use to describe how they feel participating in these events.

On behalf of Ms. M’s class at Montcalm Secondary School, we thank Special Olympics Ontario for providing such a fantastic secondary school program! We look forward to many more such events in the future!
