Job Title: Sports Program Coordinator
Tasks and Responsibilities:
The Sports Program Co-ordinator, will work to support a number of programmatic initiatives planned for Special Olympics communities across Ontario. This position will work to support outreach efforts, school and youth development, partnership support, resource development and overall program development and growth in priority communities across the province.
Much of this project work will be around the planning, creation and implementation in person programming and support surrounding return to program initiatives.
Tasks and Responsibilities for this position may include:
• Update school and youth program websites, school resource kits and promotional materials.
• Prepare Professional Development materials for Educators and coaching materials for school coaches.
• Assist with ongoing maintenance of the school programs database.
• Building of local community programs alongside community implementation partners.
• Development of coaching and community resources, tools, materials
• Provide support to the ongoing development of volunteer and athlete training resources.
• Provide support to existing sport partnerships with generic sport groups and support the ongoing integration of intellectually disabled children into local sport programming.
• Provide direct organizational and coordination support for the development of partnership programs to increase the availability of sports programs for intellectually disabled athletes in the local community.
• Foster the development of partnerships with community centers, camps, schools and generic youth sports leagues.
• Foster the development of integration of athletes with an intellectual disability into generic sports programs. (Project Unify)
• Foster the development of Masters and Seniors programs for Athletes older than 55. This includes the development of resources and working with aligned partner organizations across the province.
- Provide organizational and hands on support for in person competitions including the 2023 Provincial School Championships and local HomeTown Games
Projects will be assigned based on interests and strengths and through consultation with host programs and stakeholders. The student will be supported by full time staff within the Community, Sport, Competition, School and Youth Development portfolios of the Program Department.
