font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">First Responder (St. John&#8217;s Ambulance etc)<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Lifeguards at Swimming Pools<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\"><strong>Emergency Action Plan<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\">Every competition must have an Emergency Action Plan in place in the event of an emergency. \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\">The Emergency Action Plan includes three main areas of concentration.<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Person in Charge\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Call Person\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Control Person<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><strong>Person in Charge<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\">Where possible, the person in charge should be an individual with specialized training in injury care or first aid.<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\">The duties of the person in charge include all of the following:<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Initially when coming in contact with the injured athlete, take control, and assess the situation.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Instruct any bystanders to leave the athlete alone.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Do not move the athlete; leave any equipment in place.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Evaluate the injury. \u00a0This may include anything from an unconscious athlete to a sprained finger. \u00a0Once you have assessed the severity of the injury, decide whether or not an ambulance is required.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">If you are certain that an ambulance is not needed, then decide what action is to be taken to remove the athlete from the playing surface.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">If an ambulance is required, then notify your call person, give a brief explanation of the injury and tell them to make the call for the ambulance.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Once the call has been placed, observe the athlete carefully for any change in condition and try to calm and reassure the injured player until professional help arrives.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">STAY CALM &#8211; Keep an even tone in your voice.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Make note of time which injury occurred.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><strong>Call Person<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\">If it is deemed necessary or advisable to summon emergency medical services and transportation, a call person should be pre-assigned to call for emergency services.<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Know the location of all emergency telephones<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Have a list of all emergency numbers related to the city or town in which the program is taking place (i.e. on your person, in the trainer&#8217;s kit)<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Emergency Telephone Numbers to be included: Ambulance, Hospital, General Emergency, Fire Dept., Police, Directions to Facility including closest main intersection<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">These numbers should be written on a wallet size card and carried at all times<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">If possible, telephone numbers should be permanently placed by the emergency telephone<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Display specific directions of the best route to the arena<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Quarters should be carried at all times if the emergency telephone is a pay phone. \u00a0If quarters are not available call the operator or 911<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Do not rely on numbers being posted by the telephone<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Do not rely on the operator to transfer the call or messages. \u00a0Stay on the line until you are sure that the message has been given.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">STAY CALM when giving information<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\">Information the Call Person Must Give the Dispatcher:<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">State that it is a medical emergency.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Give the location &#8211; clearly and calmly.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">State what the emergency is: \u00a0Is the patient conscious?  Breathing normally? \u00a0Bleeding? etc.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Give the telephone number from which you are placing the call in case they have to phone back for more information. \u00a0Have someone stay by the phone if possible.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Give the dispatcher the best route into the facility.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Ask for the estimated time of arrival of the ambulance to the arena.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Wait for them to hang up first.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Report back to person in charge and confirm that you have made the call and give the estimated time of arrival of ambulance, etc.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\"><strong>Control Person<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\">For the Emergency Action Plan to be effective someone must be assigned for crowd control.<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Discuss the plan with the other people involved<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Ensure that team-mates and spectators are not in the way of the Person in Charge<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Ensure that the route for the ambulance crew is clear and available<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">If the Person in Charge feels it is a serious injury, inquire if there is highly trained medical personnel available (i.e. MD, Nurse) in the area. \u00a0Inquiry may be accomplished by the loud speaker or intercom system in the area.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:10pt\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\">Please ensure that an Accident or Incident Form is completed and submitted to SOO.
