{"id":2184,"date":"2019-01-09T20:27:14","date_gmt":"2019-01-09T20:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www1.specialolympicsontario.com\/resources\/?p=2184"},"modified":"2024-07-03T13:47:06","modified_gmt":"2024-07-03T17:47:06","slug":"junior-coach-position-description","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www1.specialolympicsontario.com\/resources\/junior-coach-position-description\/","title":{"rendered":"Junior Coach Position Description"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:14pt\"><strong><span style=\"color:black; text-decoration:underline\">Junior Coach<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\"><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\">To encourage youth to become involved in providing sports skill training to athletes with an intellectual disability.<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\"><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Desire to work with people who have intellectual disabilities<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Knowledge of sports and some experience working with Special Olympics athletes would be an asset.<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Required to have completed the National Coaching Certification Program Special Olympics Canada Community or Competition Coach technical course within one year of becoming a coach<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Obtaining NCCP multi sport and sport specific courses is recommended<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\"><strong>Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Assist athletes in acquiring sports skills<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Have basic knowledge of first aid<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Attend available coaching clinics in the sport<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Set a good example as a role model for athletes<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Exhibit good sportsmanship<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Work towards attaining such qualities as patience, conscientiousness, flexibility, discipline, and organization<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Encourage people with an intellectual disability to participate in Special Olympics programs<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:black; font-family:Arial\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">While Junior Coaches fill an important role in assisting the Coach or Head Coach, as conditional volunteers they are not expected to take on full responsibility for the athletes and can not be counted in the sport coach to athlete ratio<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\"><strong>Time Requirement<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\">Two to five hours per week<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\"><strong>Accountability<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial; font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:black\">Reports to the Head Coach<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Junior Coach \u00a0 Purpose \u00a0 To encourage youth to become involved in providing sports skill training to athletes with an intellectual disability. \u00a0 Qualifications Desire to work with people who have intellectual disabilities Knowledge of sports and some experience working with Special Olympics athletes would be an asset.
