voices are: heard, valued, and respected within the Special Olympics community.<\/p>\n<p>Community athlete representative actively engages with athletes, advocating for their needs, and promoting a culture of inclusion and empowerment, and contribute to the overall success and impact of Special Olympics programs and initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>-Promoting Athlete Engagement<\/p>\n<p>-Celebrating athlete success<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\"><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Desire to be a leader amongst Special Olympics athletes<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Basic understanding of Special Olympics<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Good attitude<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Respected by other Special Olympics athletes and coaches<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Comfortable in group situations<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Committed and responsible<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Good language skills<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Good communication skills<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Ability to get to events without Community Council or Special Olympics Ontario support<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Access to computer and e-mail strongly recommended.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\"><strong>Duties and Responsibilities<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Attend Community Council meetings<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Work with Provincial Athlete Advisory Committee<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Communicate with local athletes about their interests, concerns and wishes for Special Olympics<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Make sport club visits to local clubs<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Work with Community Public Relations Coordinator to set up speaking events around your community and to help athletes in your community become involved in these events<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Work with Community Fundraising Coordinator to make sure athletes participate in local fundraisers<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Work with Community Registrar and Volunteer Coordinator on recruitment campaigns<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Make sure that Athlete Empowerment is happening in your community<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Work with Community Council to find the next Athlete Representative and train them when your term is finished<br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 4pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">\u00b7 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Review and be familiar with sections 1,6,7,8, and 18 of the information portal.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Maintain Special Olympics e-mail address that is provided to you if applicable.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 4pt;\">\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\"><strong>Time Requirement<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Up to 10 hours per month, e-mails, phone conferences, meetings, events and workshops<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">13 month term<br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 4pt;\">\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\"><strong>Accountability<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">Reports to Community Council and Provincial Athlete Advisory Committee and is accountable to all local athletes<br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 4pt;\">\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu;\">*<strong> Please note that Athlete Representative position on a Community Council can not be related to any Community Council member.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This page was reviewed on June 20, 2024, by Special Olympics Ontario.\u00a0 COMMUNITY ATHLETE REPRESENTATIVE Purpose To provide a voice for athletes on community councils and to help ensure athletes in the community are participating in community initiatives.
